The lovely people at Equinox asked us to pimp some of their refreshing kombucha drinks into smoothies! What is kombucha? – It’s a fermented drink. Made from green tea, cane sugar and a live culture called a kombucha ‘SCOBY’ (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast). This colony grows on top of the beverage as it ferments. Health benefits - This has a myriad of benefits such as improved digestion, fighting candida (harmful yeast) overgrowth, mental clarity, and mood stability. (Being us we’d like a reduced sugar or healthier alternative sugar version pretty please Equinox) KOMBUCHA SMOOTHIES We took our favourites, Ginger and Raspberry and Elderflower (the others are tasty too!) Living tea smoothie number 1. Ginger & Blueberry Fizz Keeping this flavour combination simple & true. It’s the perfect refreshing afternoon pick me up. Ingredients 1 x bottle of Ginger kombucha 1 cup of blueberries, we used frozen. ½ juice of a fresh lemon 4 mint leaves. Pop them in the blender and blitz. To serve – fill a glass 1/3 full with ice and slice the rest of the lemon in, shred a few more mint leaves too then pour over smoothie. NOTE - if you are using a cup-based blender, be careful when you unscrew the lid, these are lively smoothies! Living tea smoothie number 2. A Raspberry & Elderflower tonic A more filling smoothie to boost your energy levels. Ingredients 1 bottle of Raspberry & Elderflower kombucha 1 cup of frozen raspberries 1 heaped teaspoon of cashew butter Juice of ½ a lime 7cm of a whole cucumber NOTE - if you are using a cup-based blender, be careful when you unscrew the lid, these are lively smoothies!
