What is it? Until Indigo Herbs sent Clean Supper Club a pack of their lucuma powder, to experiment with, we’d no idea either! But now we can’t remember what we did with out it.
Lucuma is a fruit from a tree that grows in the Peruvian Highlands. It has a nutty caramel flavour and is used to sweeten foods.
What do we use it for? We use lucuma powder in smoothies, porridge, energy balls, raw desserts and baked desserts. It’s great for gaining a caramel flavour without using processed sugar.
What can it do for your health? Nutritionally it’s a great source of dietary fibre, potassium, iron and beta-carotene. In South America the anti-aging properties of lucuma are long renowned and have recently been confirmed in a study by the journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. Trials found that the high levels of essential fatty acids in lucuma greatly increased tissue regeneration.
